Bob Kane created "the Bat-Man" in 1940 and is credited in every film, cartoon, comic book and TV adaptation to this day. Batman has no inherent superhuman powers. To compensate for this Batman relies on his own scientific intellect , crime solving skills a la Sherlock Holmes, and athleticism. In 1943, Batman was adapted in the 15-part movie serial Batman, with Lewis Wilson portraying Batman on screen. While Batman never had a radio series of his own, the character made occasional guest appearance in The Adventures of Superman starting in 1945 on occasions when Superman voice actor Bud Collyer needed time off. Batman and Robin, another movie serial followed in 1949, with Robert Lowery next playing the Batman. Everyone knows Batman, whether they read a comic or not especially due to these early Batman movie serials.
