Bing CrosbyHarry Lillis "Bing" Crosby was born in 1903 and died in 1977. With over 500 million records in circulation, Bing Crosby was truly a multimedia star. From 1934 to 1954 Bing Crosby was a leader in record sales, radio ratings and motion picture grosses. Best notably known in film in his On The Road series with Bob Hope, Bing Crosby was a true star. Crosby won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as Father Chuck O'Malley in the 1944 film Going My Way. According to Wikipedia, "With 1,077,900,000 movie tickets sold, Crosby is by that measure the third most popular actor of all time, behind Clark Gable and John Wayne." WOW. Bing Crosby sold a LOT of movie tickets over the years! Crosby was a frequent guest on the musical variety shows of the 1950s and 1960s. Bing Crosby was especially closely associated with ABC's variety show The Hollywood Palace.
